-how do you cast a shadow of one object onto another object...??

Is the casts shadows option checked in the attributes window?

Chet,

As Hizzle notes, all objects have shadow casting and receiving Attributes, which are always on by default. To see shadows, in addition to having a Light set to Cast Shadows, you also need to enable the Shadows option from within the Rendering Options. (Hold down your Option key (Mac) or Ctrl-Shift keys (Win) when selecting the display mode from the Display Menu to access its options.)
