I created a 2D plane for a tree and used a TIFF image for the transparency map. When I render the scene the tree looks perfect with the alpha channel gone but it casts a square shadow, instead of the shadow of the tree. Can anyone help me with this.

Set your Light to cast Raytraced / Transparent Shadows, and make sure that your RenderZone Options are set to Shadows: Per Light (or All Transparent.
