how do you bring a photo into the modeling window, so i can place the model i made onto the view of the photo...??

Use "Underlay", "Command U" on mac and locate the image file in the dialog..

Chet,

Use the Underlay function, located under the Window menu.

Note to see the photo in your rendering you will either need to set this as a Background Map in the RenderZone options \ Scene tab or load as a Surface Style and apply it to an object (set this object's Attributes to Render As Background).

There's a great free extension available in the Extension downloads called Control Underlay that allows more direct control f underlay images. You can scale, nudge and turn underlays on and off much more easily and interactively.
