Hey Guys,

I don't know if there is one already.. but can we make a Performance test for a Maxlwell scene to test both Z-plugin export time and MX-render quality(for a fixed time)? What do you think? is this the place for it?

best,

is this the place for it?
Why not?

I don't know if there is one already..
I'm more interrested in Maxwell itself than a performance test only.

It could be nice to make a cooperative rendering all togheter...

Have you a scene?

M.S.

There are a few speed tests already regarding the machine power and rendering time.

Check it out:

Now with the new plugin Maxwell is working really well with Form.Z 6.1. Even to the level im doing quick preview renders of my model in the background instead of doing a renderzone test. this also enables you to keep working on the model while the tast render continues in the background

Maxwell was hardwork in the begining but its all starting to come together now

-m, uki, Chris,

I can be more clever,

I don't see any interest in a new rendering speed test.
For the hardware we already have the performance test III and if we want to prove that Maxwell is a very slow rendering engine we should win the race easyly.

On the other hand, I've here two computers and I don't need their power all nights...

So, and this is the point, it could be very easy to put on them a scene by night and return the cooperative .mxi to the initial user.

In other word I'm ready to offer freely my computer power to a restricted number of users for images calucaltions.

I' think this make sense.

Let me explain;
In exemple Ms have a rendering to make for tomorow
He send to all of the workgroup his scene (in exemple with sevices like www.yousendit.com)
Each member must have a "SEED" number atributed.

If its machines are not busy he put the scene on them.

The fellowing day he return the .mxi to the creator of the scene.

The final step consist for MS to merge the cooperative MXI and save its renedering.
He also should pay a beer to all contributors :-)

This is the idea.

Any thought?

Jean Luc,

this sounds like a good idea ! i would be in.

there is only the issue with the .mxi files which get quite big.
but zipping them used to be very effectiv. just checking...

mmh. the .mxi files are not reduced very much. 443MB to 380MB for example so this would be the problem. how to send those huge files.

m_s all you need to do is mention Maxwell and that gets out Jean Luc all excited (rightly so!)

I'd be in on this once I finally get the wallet out and purchase Maxwell. as for file size, we could torrent them, no?

Hi Chris,

You haven't yet purchased Maxwell?
You're welcome to the club! :-)
I'm happy to work with you on this...

What do you mean by "torrent them"?

For the file transfert I think to FTP.
here is a client/server software:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla/

Michael, I've send you an E-mail...
We could make a trial.

Still using the demo with the watermark until I get a few invoices in, but have been following alll conversations on the forum. I was talking about bittorrent, though with a limited user base it could be more efficient to FTP...

hi chris,

you might be right, but the user base is not only limited it is only one guy who is supposed to get all the .mxi .
so with bittorrent you would get quite a lot of bandwidth usage and a lot of unwanted copies. imagine my .mxi i rendered for jean-luc as example. i want to give it to him. using bittorrent all other users in the network download the .mxi as well just to give jean-luc a better bandwidth to download the file. but the others do not need this file actually.

Guys,
I have simple solution. I will just make a public Gmail account, and save the file in there! and put the account, password on the forum.
no?
The file should not be bigger than 10 mb. I can "Rar" it too..
I know I will be abusing a Gmail account.. but we can keep it for Z users to share files among themselves..
What do you think?

Michael, Chris and all,

Just send me an E-mail and we will see if the ftp server I've installed yesterday work fine for this.

I actually work on our website. This ftp server sould become a part of it. it will be a better solution.

But I think we have to test this with tools very easy to install.

(If nothing else it will be quite educational to see what all you guys are producing!)

Chris,

I've tried to contact you by E-mail, but it failed.
Is your E-mail (chrisg@machado-silvetti.com) correct?
