would it be possible to add some degree of control for the offset of popup menus? i found myself continuously in trouble when selecting by accident one left column icon in the modeling palette. in that case, the popup palette overlaps most part of the icon on the right column. you have first to get rid of the popup to activate this tool, or you have to maneuver through that tiny slot on top of the popup palette to get it activated.

another, cleaner solution would maybe to offset the popup region always slightly crossing the right or left border of the 'mother' palette.

Markus,

Moving this pop-out palette down a little farther could be nice, but in your example, how would you get to the Move tool if the T-form 2 palette should pop out when the cursor is over the Extend tool? Or if it did not pop out, how would you get to other tools on the T-form 2 palette?

oh yes the second example is obviously not working, logic error... :D

but a fine tuning option would be nice nevertheless. it happens quite often that you hover over the adiacent icon 'by accident'. even without adding a user option, a fine tune towards a more diagonal direction of the popup would be beneficial imo.

Markus,

you can try to collapse your palette to one column and reduce icon size, AND turn off the text - that works best imho.
That way you can always move the cursor down or up without bothering about the pop-out palette, in case you missed on first try.
(quote "it happens quite often that you hover over the adjacent icon 'by accident'.")

At some point (I think Z Version 3) ADS decided to go for two columns and personally speaking it has always annoyed me...
Has been perfect until Version 3 came out... from then on I have always set my own workspaces.
And I will again once this is fixed...

I hate the pop outs too. Is it possible to turn this off or to have the same behavior as previous versions of formZ?

i prefer 2 columns over 1 as there is more information on less space. btw. the eye has less strain when scanning the screen horizontally, at least for us europeans, as we are used to read horizontally.

also, i'm used from photoshop to use this kind of layout over year, so i won't switch easily to a one column UI.

as for the popups, yes, they are annoying, i've tried to use the 'click' to popup option, to remove text hints etc, no real way to get happy. maybe a bit of fine tuning of all this on autodessys side will bring back FZ6 handling speed.

for the rest, i'm really happy with FZ7 in many areas!

+1 for annoying popup menus. They often get in the way while searching for the correct tool. How does on turn the popup feature off?

Gentlemen,

Yes, you can turn off both the pop-up descriptions -- and disable the Pop-up Tool Palettes on Hover option if you like -- via the Preferences...

I have this option saved in my Preference file.
