Those who know me here might also know what my main job (and the reason for using FormZ) is: writing user's manuals for whatever needs a manual, mostly medical devices, sometimes other technical things. That said, I'm pretty sure nobody here knows that people like me also might have hobbies, in my case: Steinberger guitars, as you can see on my "private" website.

Recently I've got the opportunity to put all those things together. Ned Steinberger released a new bass guitar, the Radius bass, in 2013, and I bought one from an early production run. It didn't have a manual back then... well, now it has one

Once again FormZ was deeply involved in this project. As usual I wanted to use 3D files for the illustration work, however, first I had to create this model from the existing 2D drawings:

Radius bass 3D

Next step: creating the hidden line renderings which should go into the manual. As I'm the "always nagging hidden line user # 1 - since 1996", once again this was the reason for a forum entry here. Still not quite there, still missing my bezier curve output, but of course those renderings could be finished without that feature. Just blows up the file sizes. Anyway, the finished renderings have then be used in Indesign to put the manual together:

Radius bass Indesign

Even the title of the now finished manual shows hidden line renderings:

Radius bass title

The completed manual is available as PDF file here and is also going to be printed and delivered with the bass from now on. I must admit I was happy and also proud to finally work for a man whose fan I've been for so many years... and I thought that might be worth sharing with you

Bernd

Well, as the king I herewith declare: don't use the shortcut, don't call me KOHL, all associations popping up with this word are somewhat unflattering

Very Impressive Bernd and I do think your website is great as well.
Do you also play the bass guitar?

Thanks, Dan. I'm mainly a guitarist (also playing in a band), but sometimes I enjoy playing bass as well

Supergeil, absolute Riesenklasse! :-)

And your work nicely illustrates how important streamlined and clean hidden line export is. I only do a fraction of the complexity you handle in going from 3D to 2D and I already fully subscribe to the importance of your requests for hidden line improvement.
