Zweb,

Can you say at this time that there are no issues with formZ 6.1 32 and 64 bit on corresponding 32/64 bit versions of Windows Vista?

Thanks,
Anwar

Anwar,

completely independant from FormZ: isn't the lack of (real) OpenGL support (yes, the M$ idiots want to feature DirectX instead) a good reason NOT to use Vista for any 3D application?

I've seen OGL benchmarks in a C4D forum which say: use XP... or get a Mac ;-)

Anwar,

There are a few cosmetic issues that are being corrected, but there are no known issues that should impede functionality. Of course Vista is relatively new, and we will probably not know for sure that there are "no" issues until it has been more extensively tested in the field.

Well, I think that ADS should support DirectX. 3DS Max does. I suppose someone could write a plug-in renderer for this (a little beyond me at the moment, maybe someday).

I'm not sure if a whole multiplatform industry (all CAD Systems on Win, Mac, Unix, Linux) should follow another M$ so-called-standard, which originally has been developed for 3D games (!). But that's just my opinion, of course ;-)

Bernd,

The latest news I heard was that this issue is going to be corrected before the initial release.

Anwar,

In general, the capabilities of opengl and Direct3D are equivalent. The advantage of opengl for ADS is that it is crossplatform so the same code in the display layer can be used on mac and windows.

I tried the formZ Demo on Vista and it looked fine. OpenGL was good too (although I didn't test it with a very large model).

While vista looks pretty cool, I bet there are going to be lots of headaches in the first few months (especially with drivers) so even if formZ works well, I think I'll stick with XP (or OS X) and maybe upgrade my XP box later this spring...

Robert,
Basically there are are two main differences between Dos and Mac: Dos is very dependent on the Graphic Card, but used to be stronger (because of the graphic card) with OGL. This will change with OSX.5.
OSX is less dependent on the graphic card and way better with multitasking.
So there is no OR in fact but an either in the choice of the OS.
