AutoDesSys is pleased to announce the start of two beta-testings: (1) Bonzai3d 2.0 (2) RenderZone plug-in for bonzai3d. All bonzai3d license holders are invited to beta test the new features (see below). Simply download b3d 2.0 and register it using your current registration code. To download visit: http://www.bonzai3d.com/bonzai3d_getBeta2.0.html The bonzai3d 2.0 beta includes a watermarked version of the RenderZone plugin. If you are interested in serious testing and feedback of the RenderZone plugin, please send an email to renderzonebeta@bonzai3d.com and we will provide a license code to remove the water mark and resolution restrictions. Current users of RenderZone as well as other rendering experts are also invited to test the new RZ plug-in. Please contact AutoDesSys if you fall in this category but do not have a b3d license, at renderzonebeta@bonzai3d.com. Some highlights of what to expect in bonzai3d 2.0 and RenderZone plugin: - b3d 2.0 offers 3D dimensions, 3D clipping planes (non-destructive sectioning), a Walk-through tool, six new NURBS tools for blending, merging, and extending curves and surfaces, overhauled printing, adjustable size of tool icons, improved view navigation work-flow, and more. - The RenderZone plug-in offers photorealistic rendering, including global illumination and ambient occlusion. It is compatible with formZ RenderZone Plus and allows the smooth transfer of rendering information between the two applications. We look forward to making these developments available to the 3D industry soon and having you be part of the process. We intend to compensate those who will make significant contributions to improving b3d 2.0 and/or the RZ plug-in, by offering such rewards as a free RenderZone plug-in. However, we want to clarify that simply downloading a beta version or registering as a beta tester will not automatically qualify one for a reward. We welcome your feedback and look forward to offering you significantly better tools for your design projects. |

Impressive! The additional NURBS editing tool and even the interface tweak (ability to adjust the modeling tools icon sizes) is also a very nice addition. Dan S. |

first impressions: 1. the dimensions are great. i wish i didn't have to change the reference plane orientation to get them to go the direction i want. i should be able to pull them out in any direction. this just seems to be something from the so-called 'old' formZ days. i added a new style to the dimensions and they are really nice for architectural drawings. 2. Renderzone is great. I turned on GI and the renderings look awesome. super easy. 3. the new nurbs tools are so nice. finally blends, extensions, merging! Thanks! 4. clipping planes are awesome! |

Evan, You mention that you got great rendering results after just turning on GI. We are always curious what our users are doing, so feel free to post some images if you (or anyone else) can! (You can post these here, or start a new thread for that if you like.) |

Congratulations for this beta release of bonzai3d 2.0. It looks like a significant leap forward in the functionality of this already powerful program. One thing I didn’t see included was the edit in place functionality that tech support said was coming soon: “We suspect that what you are missing is the ability to edit the content in place (editing an instance) without the extra step of opening the content file. We understand that this is important and we are working on this improvement and hope to announce it soon. We have also had suggestions that it would be useful to have the content embedded in the project file so that it is more portable. We expect to make improvements in this area as well.” What is the ETA for these improvements? Please advise. Thank you. |

Mark & Markus, The content editing improvements are in progress but they are not quite ready yet. We did not want to delay the release of the other improvements, but the content editing improvements should be coming soon. (Sorry, we do not have an exact date yet...) |

Thanks. With the apparent improvements added to the bonzai3d 2.0 beta, the lack of edit in place embedded content is the only real objection I have left with the functionality of this software. Sounds like version 2.1 will rock! Thanks again. |

As a user of FormZ when it first came out, who dropped out when it was upgraded to the Mac/Intel machines because it was just too expensive for my needs (furniture design), I am really impressed with Bonzai. The learning curve is steeper than I thought, as there are several subtle differences from FormZ, and my memory for the detail isn't what I had hoped, but, slowly, I am getting there and am developing a renewed enthusiasm for furniture design, so much quicker on the screen than on the bench. And my office is warmer than my workshop at this time of the year! |

Mark, We have now released the bonzai3d 2.0 Beta 4, about which you can get more info HERE. Among many improvements, this now allows for direct editing of Components (formerly called Content). To edit this, just right click with the Pick Tool and select Edit. Does this now work the way you want? Stephen, We are pleased that bonzai3d is helping you realize your designs and even more so that it has renewed your enthusiasm! |
